Welcome to Aurora Wellbeing

Creating Aurora's Virtual Museum

The Heritage and Health project will see the creation of a Virtual Museum which will eventually reunite some of the collections from the former Worksop Museum in virtual form. The content of the museum will be created by you and will be an important part of the 'heritage hub' at the Old Library and Museum building when it opens.

We do not have access to the Worksop Collection during this time but we can make a start with objects and records we cherish at home. We are launching our Virtual Museum (at home) Project to create a virtual 'Aurora Collection' of objects and their stories for others to share, learn from and enjoy.

Virtual Musuem (at home) Project

We invite you to add your own favourite or meaningful object to our Virtual Museum.

I want to get involved but I'm not sure what object to include.

  • Think about important events in your life and your families. Is there an object that represents that event?
  • Does your object have a personal story to tell?
  • Your object may just make you feel good when you look at it, it could be unusual or maybe you don't even know what it is.
  • Remember objects don't have to be old or valuable, museums care for objects that bring enjoyment to people. They are places of inspiration and learning.
  • Ruthie Boys (Heritage Engagement Officer) and her family have shared the objects that are important to them. Take a look at the Aurora Collection page for inspiration.

I have chosen my object, now what do I do?

Step 1. Take a photograph of your object. (Choose its best side)

Step 2. Help people understand the importance of the object to you, your life and/or your family. Write your own personal narrative - in other words tell its story and your connection to it.

Step 3. Make a record of any other known information. Object name. A short description of its appearance. What condition is it in? What material is it made from? Who made it? What year was it made? Where was is bought from? You may also want to do extra research.

Step 4. Send the photograph of your object, its story and other information to us and we will add it to the Virtual Museum on this website for others to enjoy.

You don't have to include any personal details with your submission but please note that if you send your object photograph and stories to us you are agreeing for their use on the website and they may be shared more widely.

How do I send the photograph and story to you?

Please email your photographs and stories to Ruthie Boys at heritage@aurorawellbeing.org.uk

I would like to do more, what else could I do?

  • Research what was happening in the world when the object came into your life.
  • Create a timeline of what your object would have witnessed throughout its life.
  • Encourage the whole family to get involved, create and share a family museum.
